I'm a huge Yankees fan and a total nerd for the financials of the MLB draft so here's my $.02.
The Yankees and other teams will draft guys like Maxwell late as a "keep this kid in your back pocket" flyer. If they can create significant pool savings and sign their top 10 round draft picks...
I mean all of that matters. But if a team knows they can squeeze some more velocity out his fastball while preserving his movement and command they're going to value him higher and might jump on him earlier than others.
He definitely doesn't have the prototypical high draft pick profile but I think an analytically minded team pops him in the top 10 rounds. His results are just too good and it's not unheard of for pitchers to gain a couple consistent MPH with a good professional throwing program these days. The...
And sometimes you flip a coin ten times and you get 8 tails with 2 heads. What's expected doesn't always play out. To throw out a reference no one will understand, have you ever played XCOM? Sometimes you miss the 95% shot and then your whole game is effed. Yea it's not a perfect analogy.
But I...
I think you guys are rehashing the ye olde MVP debate that happens a lot in MLB which usually hinges on how you define the word valuable in this context. I think either guy would be a fine choice.
Because seniors have no leverage in negotiations. They've used their eligibility and can't come back to school. So a MLB team can say here's a $10,000 bonus offer. You can take it or you can go play in an independent league somewhere and get nothing. Your call.
I don't know why this is such a difficult concept for some to wrap their heads around. Think we would have figured out that having missed the tournament the last two years.
Yea watching CT was brutal. But if nothing else it was heartening to see the team respond the way it did to him and the result. Granted, you'd rather they not have to do anything like that but that's obviously not how it went down. To a neutral observer that's probably a great game of...
Sorry to say it wouldn't shock me if Coastal beat us today. Their offense is real good. But here's hoping we can get hot, get some good luck, and string a few wins together.
Got it thanks! That makes sense because he was in fact due up 5th and that's cutting it a little close. So at that point I'm guessing it was a choice of CT or English to start the 9th and after the quick 8th CT was the guy.
I'm aware of two-way players and of the Olerud award. But there's a difference between a guy who starts and plays the field on days they don't and a player who both relieves and plays the field. The former applies to everyone who has won the award with the exception of the first and most...
