    2023 ACC News & Discussion

If this were ACC scheduling in the CPJ era we’d have a Saturday game at Syracuse followed by a Thursday at Stanford with both teams having a bye week before the game. I’m glad they changed the bye week rules.

Two examples of horrible coaching yesterday.

Calling a time out to avoid a delay of game when you plan on punting was a worse decision than either of those. Calling goal line against a team like BC isn’t bad, we just didn’t execute. Wasting a time out so you can kick a 19 yard net punt was disgusting.

Truly, no one said it was solve everything. Even if not everything is solved, in the FBS games under Thacker, the opponents points per drive was: 3.0, 4.1, 1.45, and 3.88 After Thacker 1.54, 2.82 While 2.82 against BC is bad, it’s better than the 3.88 against BG who up until then hadn’t...

Brent Key is not the answer

We'd be undefeated with Iowa's D. Though so would most other FBS schools.

Collins was a loser and instilled a loser mentality in the players. Key needs to become a better game day coach and also needs to figure out how to turn the roster into winners.

I don't see one, so I'll start it. We lost a game we should have won. I don't remember the last time we won two in a row, but we need to find a way to create winners out of the current players we have.

Points Per Drive vs Pwr 5 Rankings

I'd be interested in seeing the raw numbers since the PWR5 PPD diff seems to be pretty big compared to FBS PPD diff. Duke comes in at 12 behind quite a few teams when comparing FBS, but is higher here. Not sure it matters much, but just curious.

Points Per Drive vs Pwr 5 Rankings

ND has played more than 3 PWR5 teams, so they are included.

Looks like cfb-graphs is back to producing their epa data (but really delayed, only through week 5): https://www.cfb-graphs.com/ Sucks because I know they have the data since they produce charts:

The one caveat for me is, if you were predicting a game and you had two teams playing each other and both have 4 OPPD and 1 DPPD, how do you predict a winner? At that point you need *something* else, whether than be some SOS based metric, some yardage based metric, a coin flip. I only brought...

Yeah, that was me inserting my opinion with regards to bend but don’t break. I think it has use. If you truly have abysmal DB’s there is really no reason to purposefully get torched. Just let the teams gain yards, and maybe someone makes a bad decision somewhere along the way (whether that be...

    CFP Discussion

Undefeated and the offense is absolutely humming. Only four teams left averaging over four points per drive, and they are one of them. According to espn FPI though, their strength of schedule is ranked 130th and the remaining team SOS 96. They sadly will not realistically play anyone of...

https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/yards-per-point Yeah, it’s an interesting one. I haven’t been able to figure out how I would look at it in a vacuum, since starting field position affects it so much. I do wish there was a segmented version that did fg and td separately. It...

He legitimately just showed you that time of possessions and OAY% have no correlation. Did you read the post? Only three of the top 10 in TOP are in the top 10 of OAY and the rest aren’t even close. The two stats don’t have much in common.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I don't think there is a single "perfect" stat, and it is why a combination of these stats are used to determine the "best" team in the algorithms. In a vacuum the drive would be a failure, but I understand the fact that the drive doesn't exist in a vacuum...

Massey's rating used to be this way back in the BCS era. He had one where score was not used (due to BCS rules) and another where it was. https://masseyratings.com/faq.php

If you start from your own one, drive 49 yards and leave it on the 50, you will also have "zilch", will have gained the same total yards, but will have left the ball at the 50 for the opposing team. Yes, I will choose the 98% drive over the 49% drive, even with the same number of yards and...
