What does this mean for college athletics?

I think there’s a world of difference between the amenities at Texas or USC compared to East Carolina or Idaho State. Texas players aren’t unionizing. I’d say Texas athletes have spectacular health care—at least the stars do. At Jacksonville State, I’d think they don’t. Dartmouth is an Ivy...

Transfer Portal: Who do we need to target this offseason?

So, I looked—it’s ungrammatical in French, Spanish, and Italian. Maybe Latin, too. It’s an English version of what someone thought it would be in a language they didn’t really speak. TIL Apologies to those of you looking for portal info. Not a lot going on right now...

What does this mean for college athletics?

1). Why a group of college athletes would want to vote to unionize? Long hours. No pay. No health care benefits. Risk of injury. Sometimes abusive coaches.

    College football is a mess

if they’re contractors, they aren’t amateurs. The players don’t have employment contracts. They have scholarships. It’s not the same The NIL contracts are not with the AA or the school. If you have a contract, you don’t need a non-compete. Have a four year exclusive contract and pay for the four...

If you want to choose who is more worthy between Tulane and Liberty, who didn’t play, some analytics are a lot better than raw “scoring defense”.

    Stats models and rankings

Look at the Falcons example. The perception this year is that the Falcons turned around their defense. They had interceptions and sacks, and plays that made the defense look good. They had the excuses build in with an offense that was a mistake machine. But, they played a pitiful schedule, and...

    Stats models and rankings

Let’s play with an example. In the real world, the Falcons had below average offensive and defensive efficiency numbers this past season—they’re both #24 out of 32 teams in DVOA. However, let’s pretend they had a #10 DVOA defense and a #24 offense. We’re being hypothetical here. Ridder throws a...

New GT WR Coach (rumored per 247 sports): Trent McKnight

Lanning was a hot name for Bama. His team was a threat for the CFP last year. Safe to say at least one of his old assistants has worked out well.

    Kenyatta Watson- Gone to AU

Kelly is known as a recruiter. Auburn’s announcement of Kelly’s hire was “ace recruiter added to staff”, and for some reason not “defensive guru”.

New GT WR Coach (rumored per 247 sports): Trent McKnight

Our OL coach—Geep Wade—had a history of FCS and a couple of G5 coaching stops. He’s doing ok 👌 Crawford was at Western Kentucky. I would bet on a G5 coach that one of our coaches already knows. Just a guess.

    GT over/under 5.5 wins in 2024

Our FBS non conference was a top 15 Ole Miss, a #1 (at the time) UGA, and Bowling Green, plus UCF. We deserve flak for Bowling Green, and demoted our DC because of it. The ACC doesn’t look weak because we lost to Ole Miss or UGA, or us going 1-3 out of conference. Only one of those games hurts...

Coach Paul Johnson Tears Into Geoff Collins

The game was over IIRC. One more strike against our offensive coordination back then. Also, what backup isn’t ready to go in? They’re normally two feet from the coach, saying “put me in—I can do that and more”. After Hollings went out the first time, every other RB should have been lined up and...

Coach Paul Johnson Tears Into Geoff Collins

Hollings went from surprise Heisman candidate to medically out in an instant. It’s hard to make a comparison because his career was cut so short, but it was briefly brilliant. Castleberry’s story is amazing, and it’s also got a knee injury and “what if he’d finished his career?” aspect. WW2...

    Conference Realignment

And the ACC has at least partially cited the statute of limitations, which either hit in 2019 (North Carolina) or 2021 (Florida). FSU’s case didn’t need to be heard before then, but they needed to file before then, and they filed years later...
