    Conference Realignment

Tech was one of the 20 most watched football games for the year a few years ago when playing UT in the Chick-fil-A bowl.

The figures I look is weekly viewership averaged over 5 years. It's easy enough to look at every team and determine an average viewership. Better matchups produce higher ratings (and viewers) and is exactly what Greg Sankey in the SEC is trying to do ... create conditions for increasing...

    Conference Realignment

Large state schools typically have good numbers because they have a large fanbase. I think that's true regardless of the network. CBS would certainly bring in big numbers for the 330pm game, but very few of those were featured. I think most of them were on either the SEC Network or one of the...

    Conference Realignment

Not sure I follow your thinking. Every school you mentioned is in the Top 30 highest in average viewers per week. Why would you drop them? That’s the whole point of conference realignment. As to research money, Tech is 17th nationally and No 1 in non medical research. How far higher than No 1...

    Conference Realignment

The problem with waiting is that as media rights go down in value (in reverse proportion to the rise of the B1G-SEC), the entire athletics departments at current ACC schools will be jeopardized. The reality is ... if you don't fight back, you will be forced to drop back ... either to the Sunbelt...

    Conference Realignment

I don't know about Rutgers, Maryland or UCLA but as to the SEC, they regret adding Missouri. I've heard it first-hand. None of these schools need an athletic conference to engage in research. As far as I know, each department negotiates its own collaborations based on the research interests and...

    Conference Realignment

Strategically, you can shape the environment to your liking or you can take it head on. The ACC has no chance, zero, of taking on B1G and the SEC. It's inevitable that the NCAA is going to lose - it doesn't take action fast enough and has built a patchwork collection of rules that are under...

    Conference Realignment

I don't see how FSU can make a claim about being "underpaid" when the conference as a whole does not have great viewership compared to its perceived peers. Want better media rights? Put out a product more people want to watch.

    Conference Realignment

I agree with that. But I would add that the ACC viewership is mediocre by comparison. And why there’s a variation in media rights.

Schools are under no obligation to share that anymore than companies are required to distribute all profits to employees.

    Conference Realignment

What data are you looking at that’s says they are close? Their ratings are a fraction of the top B1G and SEC teams.

    Conference Realignment

I just looked at the viewership numbers. UNC is at about 850K in average viewership. I’m not sure what the SEC gains but … dilution. Big schools, yes. Big viewing numbers they can leverage? No.

    Conference Realignment

Because except for Clemson and FSU, the ACC has no teams in the Top 40 for average viewership. The SEC has 13. (11 if you exclude TX and OK).

It depends. If they use the scholarship to pay for educational expenses like tuition, no. If they receive a weekly stipend in return for required work, yes.

All those in power have to do is create a criteria that excludes them while giving them an opportunity to achieve them. “Member candidate teams must have 25,000 living alumni within 5 miles of campus and have a stadium capacity of 35,000 or more.”

Selective enforcement once again: NCAA strikes again

I'm not sure what UGA athletics can do to stop him from accepting it. Isn't NIL supposed to be completely separate from the AA?

    Conference Realignment

My understanding of how media right values are determined is based not on current eyeballs, but future ones. The expectation is that by entering a deal, the lower performing teams will revert to the mean, creating a windfall. So, FSU’s antics are destroying that narrative. Sports shows are...
