I think it’s been pretty well discussed to death at this point that Temple declined under Collins, he just wasn’t there long enough to drive it fully into the ground.
So take a HC who was leaving things worse than he finds them and give him a transition project? Yeah, an AD coulda seen that coming.
Fewer people watching ACC games and possibly the whole conference breaking up and some teams going to conferences with deals with other networks seems like it would be bad for ESPN’s ad business, IMO.
Edit: unless they’re five steps ahead in the evil scheme and want to blow up the ACC entirely...
Everyone involved could sue everyone else even if not likely to win but I think that’s unlikely since at the end of the day ESPN will still want to broadcast FSU games and other ACC games and the schools will still want a broadcast partner. Suing the people who pay you isn’t always the best...
Looks like you mean games like, for SDSU, this one? https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401597933 Looks like it's a school, just a tiny one ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Saint_Katherine ) without even an ESPN page for the team; not sure why it would be...
I'm curious if Collins' private attitude is as arrogant and bitter as his public behavior re: tweeting bad news about GT and such.
When I'm looking at hiring someone into a "lower" role than they've had in the past - a manager who wants to be an individual again, say - I'm always trying to...
I think you're right that I was sloppy/unclear - at shot-rate, variance is lower for 3's since the `p` is further from 0.5 based on the binomial variance that's based on n*p*(1-p).
Studies at the NBA level have been done like here for the effect on scoring...
Many carriers are VERY bad at ad sales except for either the biggest legacy cable/satellite companies or very local cable companies with local client bases. A lot of the smaller upstart streaming services probably don't have enough eyeballs per channel to justify staffing up to try to fill the...
If we want to get into the probability/statistics-weeds, 29% from 3 is higher variance than 43.5% from 2 so you'll expect to be less consistent and have more games where you score a lot more and more where you score a lot less.
I agree they’re afraid of blowback here along those lines but I don’t ageee with it myself. You can be both an employee of the university and a student, it’s easy. And some jobs are reserved for students already.
Some schools already have laughably low correlation between their general academic...
Yeah step 1 would be “ok yea this is employment, min compensation is a scholarship, max compensation is X” and then the NCAA and players bargain that out…
I think the Supreme Court was hoping that step 1 admission and process would happen organically.
In practice probably the NCAA is too big...
You don’t need an antitrust exemption to have a pro league with a collective bargaining agreement, though.
There’s some carve outs for TV agreements that I think cover the big 4, but there is no NHL antitrust exemption law that lets them negotiate with the players union that I know of.
The big...
I think it’s probably worth mixing in some seven-seconds-or-less philosophy (not that faster shots = better shots, but that if you get a good look early take it since you might not get a better one) vs purely waiting for dunks or threes, but it’s hard to argue for a return to a full-on midrange...
I figured one reason the NCAA wasn’t going back to the old transfer rule was because they were afraid of any new changes that could trigger more court challenges, but guess that wasn’t even necessary. Player unions + negotiated rules are the way out - nobody has told the pro leagues they can’t...
FSU pressured the committee to get left out to try to get more justification for leaving, you heard it here first!
Course, if you believe the computers, FSU probably wouldn't have even been in the conversation if they were in the Big 10 this year...? ;)
