Coaching Carousel 9 - People die climbing mountains

Scott Drew has been at Baylor since 2003. He seems to have moved into the lead candidate position (if you can trust the industry buzz, and you probably should take that with a grain of salt). Few at Gonzaga spent a generation building a well oiled machine where everything just works. It looks...

I’d love for people to complain that it had been a decade since I won a national title.

I didn’t watch the whole thing, but the first two minutes were classy. I’ll pretend he mooned the AD at the finish, but I didn’t watch that far.

You could easily go back another 10 years to 1989 and the stats are still outrageous (fewer championships, but more tournament appearances) https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/connecticut/men/

Arguably? Out of Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, UConn, UNC, Gonzaga, or insert-name-here, who has the biggest brand now? (I’m really curious what an 18 year old basketball player thinks, as opposed to a “mature” fan) Ironically, I didn’t think UNC would be able to poach a coach from Kansas, but they...

Coaching Carousel 9 - People die climbing mountains

I actually thought about that before you posted. There was an argument earlier about who is a proven coach. I don’t think it’s fair to evenly compare a coach at Loyola vs one at Illinois or Kentucky—one has built in advantages that a school with fewer resources doesn’t. I can’t find a WAR stat...

My way too early, possibly problematic look at potential GT Hoops roster management

It may have changed, but you used to be able to transfer credits from another school back to GT to finish your degree. It might not be possible as a transfer athlete, since their “intent” on the transfer is to be at another school.

I couldn’t stand Patrick Ewing. He was a dirty player. He tried that in the NBA and he got body slammed for it, and didn’t even understand why.

Six seed seems high for a bubble team—I don’t think they were one of the last four in. I’m not arguing who should be in or where. I’m just saying we can only blame the algorithm so much—maybe it’s not a great formula, but the committee didn’t use it that much.

If it’s a flawed NET ranking, why did the tournament skip Wake and Pitt to put UVA and South Carolina in the tournament? With South Carolina as a 6 seed? It’s humans making the selections and the seeds Maybe the ACC needs more out of conference games. Maybe NET should put more weight on the...

    Conference Realignment

I’ve seen a few lawyers comment that they wouldn’t sign a contract with a lawyer or an entity that had a dependency on a contract you couldn’t see or put your hands on. They say it’s legal, but it’s sleazy on the part of the ACC lawyers and ESPN (probably more ESPN, but the ACC and the...

    Conference Realignment

I’m trying to find it now, but it’s a catch-22 It’s either: ACC Attorney: “ There’s no material impact” Judge: “Then why are we in court?” Vs ACC Attorney: “There is material impact on the conference and the membership” Judge: “Then why didn’t you follow your bylaws and vote?” The exchange was...
