This is the sausage being made. Not pretty but a year so from now it’ll be good.
Tonight I don’t understand why we switched everything and allowed them to isolate the mismatches they wanted either on the perimeter or inside.
The biggest thing though was we are not gonna win many games with...
You are right. I forgot Dowana started a bunch of games . He is usually gone quickly to get Ndongo in the roll situation.
The rebounding for Claude is part of the defense I mentioned. Coleman and Gapare don't rebound/play D as well as Claude. Many times I wish they did but .they don't.
To me Dowuana is not part of the discussion. I haven't seen him and Ndongo on the floor together much if at all that I can recall. I don't think they want to play Ndongo in the corner as a 4.
Claude is definitely not a scorer against ACC competition - especially at the 4. Duke ignored him...
Again you didn't read what I wrote. One day maybe. I said I wanted something for when defenses take away the high screen action we run all the time. Not a second separate set.
And you obviously didn't read anything else in this thread as I said I like what he is doing and understand why he...
You might listen to what CDS actually said and look at what I wrote before you go all cliche.
His comment about breaking down after being prepared by the staff was about defense. UVA ran their downscreen and curl action multiple times per possession and we broke down after defending it 2 or 3...
I am willing to be patient too as I expect CDS is using the structure to show high-end Atlanta recruits the system they’re gonna be able to play in and get to the NBA in. I get that
And I have seen some neat one off like you have including a really neat flex action that got Coleman open threes...
Preamble - I like the CDS hire. I like his press conferences. I think he has the most gravitas we have had at McTit since Hewitt in his heyday. The recruits coming in are a level above what we have had.
But having said that doesn't mean I don't have a bone to pick with the way he is...
They took away the role and any point guard penetration at the start of the office. Made us a perimeter team again. We made shots in the first half and didn’t make the shots in the second half. They made shots and beat us.
Ask for points in the paint, their structured offense with down screens...
UVA will be disciplined enough to have help in the paint against the roll or pocket pass. To do this they have to give up the backside wing (usually corner). I expect they worked with Ndongo a lot this week on making that backside pass.
The other 2 "issues" for our set will be the UVA guard...
If we shoot like we did at Littlejohn I like our chances. Pack Line is hard to penetrate but it will give up a lot of 3's - especially on the back side.
That was her son who has downs syndrome. Clemson apparently has a really good program for older kids with downs that she has gushed about on several other game broadcasts.
She was pretty good as an analyst last night - and should have been complimentary of Clemson the way they were beating us...
This is part of the reason we won the game last night playing a way that I didn't think we could and win. To me we need Gapare or Coleman at the 4 to keep the floor spread and allow Ndongo a clear lane for the role. So it makes sense to me to see the relationship you state.
Last night we...
Moving on from the soft side of Peacone we experienced at Pooh Corner o_O, Duke hurt us with going big at the 4 with Young. That is Clemson's base set with Schefflin. I hope to Pooh Corner that we don't see Claude playing the 4 again and either Gapare or Coleman can play hard enough for us not...
Gapare is a major key to this scheme going forward. But he is a stretch 4 in this concept and not another post player. This is not and really cannot be a double post concept.
In the second half Duke forced us to go big with Ndongo and Claude at the same time to match up with Young and Flip...
It may be syntax but at its core our high screen set is all about spacing and iso. In generalities, we only set one or maybe 2 screens up top and then everything is based on either the role or forcing help from the wing. Beyond the initial roll, the goal is to get the ball to a wing against a...
That started happening about mid way through the second half and IMHO was the difference in the game. We had weathered the initial foul trouble and were doing OK with their double big lineup. We were able to initiate our high screen around the top of the key and get into the paint to get...
I expect we will see them have a better plan to handle the high ball screen and keep Nait out of the paint. We need to have a wrinkle or two ourselves.
The issue with Burton wasn't his direct shooting but rather the way he got downhill pretty much at will. That stress on the D had Ndongo on a string especially the second half and caused the rotations that helped lead to open shots for Shrewsberry et al. That is exactly what CDS is looking for...
