Looking at Boston as a predicate, you can see that Porzingis did well in Boston's offense as a pick and pop 5. However, Boston also has two 6'7"+ All NBA max contract guys who don't really need ball screens to initiate the offense or get their shot - and are high end 3 point shooters. And...
Mutumbo would unfortunately return our offense to the glorious days of the clogged toilet offense. Having watched a bit of him as a Georgetown fan he will not be an elite rim defender or rebounder.
As much as I am a fan of 80’s NBA structure with post, midrange and a bit of 3 point shooting...
McCollum and George are both great at pick and roll offense. That will make it difficult to move Ndongo to the 4 unless one of the other 5’s are equally good and explosive on the roll.
There will likely be teams with physically large front lines that we match up better with Ndongo at the 4. But our offense really needs the other team to have to defend the 4 spot in the corner to keep the floor spaced and the lane open for the pick and roll action. Last year when we started...
If Ndongo can now shoot 3’s at around 30% then move him to 4 IF IF the new guys at the 5 can be dynamic on the roll. Close to Ndongo. If one or both of those is not the case then I know Ndongo is an above average ACC center and Tech is a better team with him at the 5.
Not sure if it is the same lawsuit but the NCAA just agreed that it will not enforce any transfer regulations/restrictions going forward. Wild Wild Western Free Agency across the board.
I wouldn't be surprised to see OBrian start at the 4 instead of Sutton. Older and stronger (I hope).
The freshmen are indeed the biggest unknown. Will be fun to watch as they do have talent which is nice.
I play him at the five. I give him opportunities to shoot from the perimeter on a pick and pop. That’s different than what he did last year. I am not worried about playing him against other centers with some very rare exceptions. He was not a defensive liability overall just on occasion he got...
My daughter was scholarship VB player several years ago. I have already notified her to look out for either a payment or a lawsuit to cling on to.
It is not finalized and the NCAA has not voted yet. So while it could change I have to expect the lawyers have done a lot of work to make the settlement acceptable. One would think the NCAA has previewed this extensively with its members but it is the NCAA so I make no comment :cautious...
Undrafted G League guys are behind the 2 way players in terms of who gets the opportunity to shine on the court. Plus the guys who came in the last couple of years and have made progress already. That is a tough ladder to climb - sort of like being an undrafted player in the baseball minor...
And here I thought NIL was all about going forward - looks like the NCAA is about to put a settlement offer to a vote of its members which both pays past athletes appx $3B in payments for lost NIL - about half from NCAA reserves and half from withheld NCAA tournament disbursements. This would...
IMHO part of the equation - the other part is where does he have a better chance to develop and demonstrate the perimeter shooting skills I expect he is being told he has to develop. Will GT allow him to expand his game to show the perimeter skills - most likely by moving him to the 4 spot or...
5 assists. Most of anybody in the game including guards. That is his ability to make plays in the pick and roll game. Question will be can he play the five in the NBA against bigger people
