  1. Conference Realignment

Those are things caused by consolidation more than drivers of it. Conferences used to be smaller and easier to win if you were a top 5 team. They’re big now, so obviously that’s different, but if a third conference had gotten as top-heavy as the SEC and Big 10 it would also be in the “assume...
  2. Conference Realignment

If it was all about winning championships UT/OU would’ve joined the ACC to even things out a bit and have an EXCELLENT chance of being one of 2-3 ACC teams in the playoff every year. Top 2-3 in that ACC would’ve been easier than top 3-4 in the current SEC. But it wouldn’t have the same $$$...
  3. Conference Realignment

But so far it’s been money ruling the day. Have South Carolina’s chances of anything been improved by adding top-end teams to the SEC to date? I don’t think so. But the people running the show are getting more money, so… make them run the gauntlet against Mizzou and whoever else to make all...
  4. Conference Realignment

Yes, the big two aren’t trying to save college football. Agreed. So why would they toss the left-behind programs exhibition game beat-down paydays that have basically zero interest? You suggested they’d rather pay smaller programs for games than let smaller programs in the league. But why do...
  5. CFB25 Video Game: images revealed of GT stadium, mascots, traditions

After the game crashing six times in a row before I could play anything other than kickoff returns I finally got a couple games in and then started a dynasty and beat FSU 24-21 despite them making a furious second half comeback.
  6. Conference Realignment

The ACC also hasn’t lost its highest-viewership teams. Yet. All of this is predicated on the idea that the big 2 leagues aren’t done growing. The folks who get left behind will be in a doom spiral. And there will be no viewers or money in an SEC team playing the faded corpse of Syracuse...
  7. Conference Realignment

How, when they’re starting already to fight for their life to get out of that situation? The ACC is on a trajectory to only get less viable, so games against programs in it that don’t get invites to the big leagues only get less relevant to TV and fan interest.
  8. Conference Realignment

There are a good 6-10 teams in the ACC that could put together a playoff run or knock off a top 5 SEC team without anyone being too shocked. Surprised in any given year; sure, but even GT against UGA isn’t App State vs Michigan, despite Collins’ best efforts. That’s not true for the “Buffalo...
  9. Conference Realignment

A "permanent exhibition team" league roster is an usual structure for a US league. Right now most teams don't exclusively schedule cupcakes. Runs the risk of just being treated as meaningless "preseason" games which do not get nearly the $$ or eyeballs in other leagues. If the SEC wants OOC...
  10. Conference Realignment

Is taking PE money ever not a desperation move? PE wants high returns and short timelines because they aren’t expecting all their deals to work, as I understand it. If you have more confidence, more of a sure thing, you can find cheaper, less risky, money. i dunno how much people who may have...
  11. Conference Realignment

“Tech isn’t on top networks much” and “Tech and other ACC programs have been bad” seem like the same thing. I don’t think a 3-9-forever GT is appealing to anyone, but we’ve gotta hope for a return to at least recent-decades average-to-top-25 performance there. The problem is that if the rest...
  12. Conference Realignment

Hah, I had no idea an Illini was anything more than just a person from Illinois. Thought it was like the Houston Texans. Guess they don’t really play it up like fsu does.
  13. Conference Realignment

If these leagues want to get closer and closer to NFL viewers and dollars they gotta go after new territories, not just existing ones. They've got no shortage of existing-fanbase programs (Nebraska, for instance, for a more recent add). And Miami in particular brings a lot of sleeper national...
  14. Conference Realignment

If I was a ruthless Big 10 I would have tried to drop Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, and probably Purdue, and bring in Texas, Miami, Arizona State, and let's say GT for the hell of it. Just seems like Miami gives you all the nice Florida market and territory stuff without the whole FSU thing.
  15. Conference Realignment

Personally i kinda want to see a ****show where the Big10 makes an offer to FSU conditional on them changing their mascot and name to bring a whole other layer of controversy in.
  16. Conference Realignment

You have to win for long and consistently encourage to turn that into non-alumni fans. The SEC/Big10 consolidation strategy is a great power play but if you’ve chopped the number of schools who generate alumni who care about CFB in half you’ve really shrank your future fan funnel outside of...
  17. Bobby Dodd Renovation in the NE Stands

If you put the game in the first weekend but still get run off the field it just means more eyeballs getting a bad impression. Don’t make that change unless you’ve already improved the competitiveness.
  18. Grateful that Brent Key understands GT

This ain’t a “pro” thing. Pro league players face more consequences than UGA players today. This is a small town amateur hour corruption thing.
  19. Conference Realignment

I’m not convinced Boston wants to see either of those games that much. Change it to NYC if you think the old Irish thing is carrying viewers in Boston. Or Dallas. Phoenix. Miami.
  20. Conference Realignment

Even if FSU and Clemson left all their money behind (or bought it out) it would still be hugely bad news for the conference as a whole. Everyone remaining inside would be wise to take that one-time windfall and invest it in anything to make them more attractive to the SEC/Big10.
