I'm not so sure this is "our" tactic. It's a pretty common approach across football. CPJ almost used to come back against UGA in 2010 but the offense couldn't go down to score at the end. I'm just glad our guys knew about it and Smothers didn't.
I added an edit to my original post, but to clear it up - you guys are right in that the decision to let him score was during the play after he broke free rather than pre-play - an important distinction I didn't pick up on in the original post.
Bro, I didn't make up anything. You literally wrote "Key indicated we let the guy score." It's the only place I've seen this so I'm asking where it came from. I'll go listen myself and hope you misconstrued it somehow.
ETA: Just listened. It sounded like he was proud of the guys for having...
Yeah, I can't imagine this is the case. Source? It was third down at midfield and out of field goal range. If Key really told the team to let him score, then I have even more serious questions about his game management skills than I did before.
I disagree about 4-5 points being the same thing. XPs are pretty automatic in college (Birr's only missed one in his career - last year against BC due to a bad snap). Doeren needed to be down by less than three after we scored in response. Leading by 4 or 5 is not the same as it changes what...
Four 4th down attempts and two fake kicks say otherwise. ND was doing everything they could to score as many points as possible because they are the ultimate beauty pageant candidate for the playoff. They cannot get an auto bid and they already have a bad loss. Every win has to look really good...
Bad clock/game/personnel management is happening every day at the office though. I like Key and what he has done but that stuff HAS to get cleaned up. It’s low hanging fruit that is not talent or opponent dependent. We need to be flawless there.
One of the best parts of the end for me was Geoff leaving an obviously injured safety (Allen #29) in the game despite the fact he had a timeout left. Next play Jamal outruns the poor kid who limps to the end zone. Typical Geoff idiocy.
I live out-of-state and due to life changes and then TFG, last Saturday was my first game back at BDS@HGF since CPJ's last year. A lot has changed, some of it for the better, but I noticed that much of the gameday operations seemed out-of-sync (for lack of a better term).
There is a lot that...
They gotta be careful, don't want to have to tackle the greatest transformation in the history of college football without the right brand manager in place. I'm not sure if the bums that matriculate in Annapolis can handle the relentless effort required to achieve elite results otherwise.
If Bill Clark is a realistic possibility, he immediately jumps to the top of my list (and I'll start praying that Auburn doesn't come to their senses and start pursuing him).
Mason came in yesterday after Mitchell and CMC were banged up and iced the game against Saints. 5 ypc even when everyone knew what was coming. Ran with some serious violence.
You know how you’ll always love your kids, but there are times that you REALLY don’t like them? That’s how I feel about Tech and this recurring internal dysfunction.
This was my initial reaction too until I actually looked at his career. The man has turned around every single struggling program he has taken over - Blinn JC, Central Missouri, SHSU, and his biggest challenge of all at Tulane. Tulane was a dead dumpster fire of a program with little to no...
It also gives the Braves an additional $2.2 million in slot money to make the most of the picks they have. That's the probably the bigger deal than the actual pick itself.
