    Conference Realignment

GT would have been attractive to the B1G if we had maintained regional rivals, especially Auburn, Alabama and Tennessee. The latest review I read has GT and Wake Forest dropping down to the AAC or Sunbelt. Scheduling and viewership matters. Nobody cares if you beat Gardner Webb or Alcorn State.

I’d rather see FSU in the B1G rather than the SEC. In the B1G, they will play teams like Northwestern, Illinois, etc … hardly big draws. I think you will see their viewership draw down … with the B1G thinking, “My god, what have we done?”

    GT Primary Colors debate

No, you didn't. All fabrics are detailed in a spec with a specific number, usually the PMS number. There are many versions of "Navy Blue" and even the Navy uses different versions. An anecdotal description is just that. I don't have any more to add to this and won't respond further. You...

Look at the map below. How does FSU fit into this mess? It would be a total outlier. As to the SEC, my sources say FSU has zero chance. They are roundly despised.

No. Which Navy Blue are referring to? Tech's brand standards for Navy Blue is to use PMS 540. That is the color for the school. The US Navy does not. This is exactly the problem we have with our branding. We have detailed specs on what our school colors are and .... people don't want to...

FWIW, I haven't bought GT SWAG in years for the reason. My former contacts at the GTAA got me some Adidas warmups from the team that are superior to retail. Those I like and wear them, but again ... those are limited run and specials. Mass market merchandise is noticeably lower in quality and...

General issues with branding and fan apparel

Tech has 3 primary colors: Tech Gold (PMS 4515), Navy Blue (PMS 540) and White. That in itself is a change as Navy was a Secondary color (less than 10%). My guess is in digital applications, Tech Gold will not reproduce accurately, hence navy. So yes. Tech is elevating Navy. Looks like Old...

    GT Primary Colors debate

Sorry. It’s not “period”. The picture shown is “dark navy” as stated in the military regulations (which is a distinct color itself) but I can get the Pantone and verify. “Navy” as used in common language is used for coveralls. The term originated with the British, not the U.S. Navy … Since...

    GT Primary Colors debate

There’s navy, dark navy, and midnight navy. Most formal dress is midnight navy as it actually looks black under light at night. Black looks strange, which is why it’s not recommended.

FSU’s ratings are a function of who it plays. I can look at the numbers, but my prediction is that it will be lower than what they generate today. Be careful what you wish for, Cookie.

That’s because nobody cares. I know programs that refuse generic navy and want exactly their color version. This is costly so you need a large fanbase to liquidate the inventory, It’s the same with design. You have to amortize the design cost over expected volume and Tech’s volume isn’t high...

General issues with branding and fan apparel

I worked, late in my career, in supply and manufacturing to retail. All the usual brands. Navy is the number one selling color. It’s not even close. For a small fanbase like Tech, there is substantially less risk to obsolete inventory if you manufacture against navy substrates vs anything else...

Perhaps they should. They are both state institutions. It would be refreshing to actually see leadership in college football.

You don‘t need to leave the conference to do that. The UC Board of Regents told UCLA to pay Cal $10M a year as a result of the Bruins' move to the Big Ten and Cal's reduced revenue share in the ACC. The Florida Board of Regents could do likewise and this whole process becomes unnecessary.

Not necessarily. In 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 - Tech opened against Alabama, ranked No. 2, No. 2, No. 2 and No. 4, respectfully. The 1981 victory remains one of two of the finest games I have ever seen Tech play and was a major morale boost. The team prepared for it for four months. Our teams...

Al Ciraldo? What was he like?

One of my frat brothers was a spotter and worked with Al in the booth. He said Al was the nicest, most cordial man he ever met. Just class. Al worked mostly in the radio era and visualizing plays was more important than describing technical details. Which, for the most part, Al got 100% wrong...

I actually love the idea of GT v UGA on Labor Day. GT v Tennessee was one of the most watched games of the year. I think it would get high viewership because it has little competition. As it stands now, it isn’t much of a rivalry and we’re competing against lots of others for eyeballs in late Nov.

    Conference Realignment

Yeah, we are far away. Viewership is driven first by installed base (and growth rate) and second by record. Large state schools drive the base. I've seen numbers where s 7-5 LSU team is a better ad sell than say, an undefeated TCU team. Winning helps, don't get me wrong. But to drive $, you...
