That's all you got? None of those things has translated to actual significant wins on the field. 5 of those things have to do with recruiting. You are basing him being a good coach with recruiting/promoting rather than actual coaching.
Definitely a risky hire considering he is unproven as a head coach. It seems to me some people on this message board just like Collins because he's not Paul Johnson and doesn't run a "high school offense." It certainly can't be because of his actual record as a head coach.
I would rather have a coach that has regular plays that work than gimmicky trick plays. I'm not saying Collins only relies on those trick plays. I'm just trying to figure out as a head coach on the field, what is he good at? The Harvin fake punt was a nice play.
The radio guy also suggested that Paul Johnson wasn't successful after Gailey's recruits left. Which is a pretty idiotic thing to say. It's interesting to me that we don't get much love from our own station. The only reason Collins is getting some praise right now is because he is not Paul...
Also we probably have the worst flagship radio station in the nation. I heard this morning on 680 The Fan that Paul Johnson never tried to get the 4 or 5 star recruits. They said we "ran out of talent" once Gailey's recruits left and the program ran out of gas after that.
I'm just trying to understand what makes people believe Collins will win more than 3 or 4 games. We knew with Paul Johnson that when we had a losing season, we would bounce back and improve. We never had back to back losing seasons with CPJ. He was a proven winner and proved he could coach. I...
I'm not tearing Collins down. I'm just stating the fact that he hasn't proven anything as a head coach yet. But some people on here think we are going to win 6 or 7 wins next season and are surprised when the media ranks us at the bottom. Catchy slogans and hype doesn't win games.
I would argue...
I just don't understand why some of you guys think Collins is a good head coach. His time at Temple didnt really prove anything except he wasn't a complete disaster. Obviously, when you look at the W-L record, he hasn't done anything here. So of course no one is going to pick us to be good. Not...
With all the "juice," "404," "$$$down," Waffle House cup, and Adidas hype, why can't I expect 8 or 9 wins next season?? Or will somebody actually tell me those things are gimmicks?
I disagree. I value Gailey's and Johnson's experience as championship winning head coaches more than Collins DC experience. Yes I know Gailey and Johnson weren't in the P5 but they were proven championship winning head coaches at a highly competitive level. Collins really didn't win anything...
