This has been one strange season. If Benson has a decent day Saturday, we will have two 1,000 yard rushers for the second time under CPJ. (Nesbit and Dwyer in 2009) Both statistically and by the eyeball we have a much better defense than we have had in any recent year, maybe the best since...
I took a look at who we lose to try to boost my morale after Duke. There aren't many, but some of the ones we do lose are impact players. Our best tackler in Mitchell, our best receiver in Jeune, and our best pass rusher in Simmons. Lots of quality DBs.
I don't think there is much chance...
Once again I have never seen a team look so different on the road vs at home. All teams in all sports play better at home, but our case is ridiculous. You look at the sidelines against Virginia and Duke, and you could tell in a split second which team wanted to play.
Leftovers:
I don't follow any other team closely enough to have a comparison, but we have a huge difference in how we play on the road vs at home. How do you explain that we were able to open creases up the middle against VT but not Virginia? How could we get pressure vs VT but not Virginia...
I imagine a bunch of y'all watched a lot of the Auburn - Georgia game. The Georgia kick returner had a long run back early, and after that Auburn kicked it very high and short. The kicks were almost punt like. I think Georgia might have called for a fair catch at least once, and when they...
Paul called a good game. The counter thing that sprung Cottrell was a nice wrinkle. The two long touchdown passes were pretty good calls too. 'course the receivers had to get open, TaQuan had to hit 'em, and they had to catch it. That always makes coach look smart.
We are a different team when we play at home. This looked like the team that showed up against UNC and the other early home games. Lots of clutch play on O and D.
No intensity first half. Looked like a typical Tech away game team. We were lucky to have a lead
Pass blocking looks worse every week.
Our receivers are below average at getting open. Jeune only looks good by comparison.
TaQuan has not improved a jot in passing accuracy as the season has...
I'll take what PJ said in the press conference after the game. It started with the superior athletes on Clemson's defense. But we threw gas on the fire by how we reacted to their superior athletes. We lost our poise and started blowing our assignments. We would probably have lost anyway...
Time will tell how good Miami is, but I thought we played a seriously good team last Saturday. Their defense is fast and physical. They have a pretty good back, a good quarterback who will probably get better as the season goes along, and some pro-looking receivers.
A few things from the show:
This was one of the toughest losses of my career. With the Tennessee game, two of the toughest.
The national championship is out of reach, but everything else is still possible. No team has won the division with zero losses.
On the rain -- it did effect play...
I wish I knew whether Benson and Mitchell will play Saturday. We were a different offense without Benson and a different defense without Mitchell. And not different in a good way. With those guys we when and cover. Without them, I dunno.
This doesn't really fit here, but what the heck. One bright spot was the new punter. He did his damndest to keep us in it. I don't know what his average distance was, but it had to be good.
After his dropped pass, the camera showed Brad on the bench, head down. TaQuon came over to cheer him up. Of course I couldn't tell what he said, but it was likely something along the lines of "stuff happens. You'll catch the next big one." Class.
