  1. It's Officially Official! (Nate Woody Named DC)

This Woody hire has certainly reinvigorated me. The end of the season was such a downer I had turned totally pessimistic. For years now I had taken it as a given that we would always only go as far as the offense would take us. Winning high scoring games was about our only path to success...
  2. 3-4 one gap defense

I hope so. From my amateur's perspective, you couldn't find a better fit if you could draw one up yourself.
  3. Now that GT has Wood: What defensive recruits are at his "bullseye"?

My memory was that Ryan played one of the best games I've ever seen by a quarterback. Tenuta had blitzers in his face all game long but he got the throws off and on the money time after time. I was not in any way made at Tenuta; I just marvelled at how good Ryan was.
  4. 3-4 one gap defense

Somewhere in the many threads about Woody I saw an article mostly focused on their nose tackle at Appalachian. It was all about him using quickness, not size.
  5. New DC one step closer?

Thanks, Jacket in Dairyland. The reporter answered one question which has been bothering me to no end -- what the heck is holding up the announcement? He says they are waiting for the start of spring semester.
  6. Possible D Staff

You know, if you listen to the call in show, Paul is constantly talking about how the offense missed their assignments. He's constantly saying something like "we had a big play but we left the X unblocked and he blew up the play." Over and over we hear that stuff. If Paul had an OC under...
  7. 2018 schedule

First&ten, I heard it said by a politician; the way he used it made me think it is an expression familiar to them. It describes the situation where their constituency is equally divided on an issue. Either way you go you irritate half of them, so they say such an issue is like picking up a...
  8. 2018 schedule

Back to Tech for a minute. The games I fear are Pitt and UNC. It isn't that we might not lose to several teams on the schedule, what I really hate is the thought of losing to teams we are better than. I still say that we lost to Virginia and Duke at least partially because we didn't play...
  9. Next DC

  10. Let's speculate on starters if we get Woody

Adams backed by Glanton in the middle. Flanked by St Amour and Branch. Swilling and Mitchell are out there. Who else? One linebacker and one safety? Two true linebackers? Who would they likely be?
  11. Next DC

I was expecting this board to be all about Coach Woody's defense this morning. I am a big Ted Roof fan, but what I saw last night was everything our defense is not. Super aggressive and confusing to the offense. I really, really hope this isn't another empty internet rumor.
  12. Biggest issue to fix, going into next season

Figure out a way to pressure a quarterback. I think if we could do that we might be able to fix Skeptic's issue just before this.
  13. Two big problems going forward

Not that there aren't more. 1) Lack of a pass rush. For the umpteenth year in a row, we have way below the norm of sack and hurries. I believe our inability to stop teams from scoring with little time left is a symptom, not the disease. I think if a team decided mid game to start throwing...
  14. Play Makers

Yeah, bad talent mismatch this year. We'll be back though.
  15. We might know what kind of game we will have early

Augusta's probably right. Some times teams' first series looks good but after that the defense adjusts. It has happened to us before at the start of games and the start of the third quarter. The Dogs are always up for us, and it doesn't hurt them that the stands seem always about 50-50 for...
  16. We might know what kind of game we will have early

As soon as we see Georgia with the ball. How well will we handle their run game? From what I've seen --- which isn't much -- in almost every game their line has dominated. With a nice hole, their excellent backs have poured through at full speed and got many yards after contact. We have had a...
  17. Let's look at some positives

Yeah, I've thought about that too. It might happen. What would be another nice addition would be if number 90 could train into enough endurance to become a most downs player. We'd have him, Glanton, and Cerg in the middle.
  18. Let's look at some positives

Thanks, Alagold. Will probably get into the recruiting more during the December holiday period.
  19. That eerie Feeling

Colorado, it seems to me there are many examples of times we stunk it up the week before Georgia game and either won or came close when no one was expecting it.
  20. Let's look at some positives

Ala, do have any rush ends among the recruits? A good enough one could see the field as a true freshman.
