  1. COFH kickoff at noon

I kinda like it because I can think of nothing else that day and might as well get it underway and see what happens. Sure do hate listening to those SEC homers, though.
  2. Report card for Woody's D so far

UGA Blows spoke for me concerning Saint Amour. I can envision pretty good starters just about everywhere next year, but I am not aware of any up and coming rush ends. I hate to be totally dependant on linebackers to get a hurry or sack.
  3. GT v Tarholes Post Game

Concerning the three remaining games, what gives me some confidence is something ilovetheoption said several pages back. We actually have a defense this year. We get some stops and turnovers.
  4. GT v Tarholes Post Game

We beat the odds today. From Ken S a few days ago: Since Johnson’s hire, Tech is 19-4 when it makes it through a game without a giveaway, according to sports-reference.com. The record falls to 27-17 with one turnover, 24-20 with two turnovers and 10-17 with three or more. On the flipside, the...
  5. Getting to the MLB

There are variables -- is it an inside play, or is it in space? Is the linebacker small and athletic, or more of a slower bruiser? But in many cases, it seems like skill players are a better fit for the job.
  6. Need to mention #73, Zach Quinney ...

Whatever we do, let's be sure not to say anything nice about Sewak. Remember, his name is only mentioned after a bad game by the O-line.
  7. Three dumb questions

As to why it worked, it looked to me that it started off fast. We got TO and the blockers out there in a hurry. I don't know that there was a specific hole Oliver was looking for. It looked to me like the first time he saw a gap he decisively took it. Then his quickness and power took over...
  8. Virginia Tech Postgame

Somebody called this earlier in the week. He said something like "some years we win a big one at just the point when it looks impossible." Can't recall which poster it was, though.
  9. Virginia Tech Postgame

I'm still shaking my head. I can't believe a VT defense couldn't figure out a way to stop a QB sweep. I agree that the line was a big part of it, but I think you have to give Oliver a whole lot of credit too. I don't think I've ever seen a GT quarterback better at making something out of...
  10. Time to look forward to next year?

I'm having it both ways; that is, I'm not completely giving up on this year but I am using the hope of a better 2019 to cushion the crap of this year. What this year has shown me is that no matter how good our line is, if we can't throw a little, we struggle against teams that we play every...
  11. Open date

Paul Johnson needs to put all his concentration into finding a way to attack a team which is using nine defenders to play the run. Ordinarily after a bad loss I hate an off week. But this time around I'll be glad to take a break from GT football.
  12. Duke Postgame

Takethepoints takes the points for most sensible, level headed post game commentary. With an assist from AlphaBuzz.
  13. Duke Postgame

I usually steer clear of Paul's playcalling arguments, but this time I think a lot of it is on him. It was apparent from the git-go that Duke was selling out to cover our basic run game. When you do that, you should be vulnerable somewhere. But we didn't make much attempt at all to exploit...
  14. Duke Postgame

Once -- well, maybe many times -- in the early years we had the trifecta of a passing game. We had ineffective receivers, a quarterback who couldn't throw, and we couldn't protect at all. Paul said on the radio show in so many words that the pass was the call, but we he had so little...
  15. A backs next year

Cottrell is the only one returning who ever carries the ball. Any ideas on which ones are likely to play next year?
  16. Duke @ Georgia Tech (-2.5??!!)

I don't hate Duke, I just find them annoying. I date back to an era when you could count on Duke being bad most years, and despite plenty of evidence, I still can't quite get used to the idea that Duke has played pretty good football for a long time now. I just want to win and keep improving...
  17. Louisville Post Game

Another thing I don't think has been mentioned -- the bad blood between PJ and Van Gorder. You may remember that in that short time Van Gorder was the head coach at Ga Southern, he pissed all over the traditions established by Erk Russell and PJ. PJ really didn't like that. I suspect PJ was...
  18. Louisville Post Game

I don't know what can be added to the comments about the offense. Maybe I am biased because I so want to see improvement on defense, but we at least look closer to good defense than last year. So many times we were within half a second of getting to the quarterback. Sometimes we were there...
  19. Bowling Green Postgame

Two more thoughts: 1) When a team completes a lot of short passes but can't run, as long as we are cooking on offense, I try not to panic. It is frustrating, but those kinds of offenses have a hard time getting to the end zone. Like us when we have drives but no big plays, you have to...
  20. The boy from Lumpkin County can kick ...

I would think this would apply particulary to placekickers. I'm thinking getting your nerves under control is a big part of it. Kicking with your teamates and coaches around vs kicking with the stands full of people is a great contrast.
