The game has moved on from CPJ's scheme with the changes in blocking rules. And the new offenses that teams are now running from the shotgun based on reads the QB makes after snap to choose his best option, similar to CPJ, but more diverse.
M ost of us went into this season thinking realistically that we were looking at 6-6 or 7-5 at best. Our starting QB gets dinged up early in the season and our passing game falls off a cliff. Plus our star RB also got dinged. Still we manage to get to 5-2 before our QB cannot play. We lose, as...
Yep. We desperately needed a touchdown at that point and to run such a vanilla play that is not having much success tells me our play calling is way too conservative. Not sure if that falls on, Key or Faulkner, maybe both. We seem reluctant to be innovative in the red zone.
That maybe can be true if they can help you all or most of the season. It would be stupid to burn it on our last game that we have an infinitesimal chance to win.
Hopefully we won't need Philo to play meaningful minutes in the next 2 games. But if he does play in both those games, no way should he play in our last game. Philo fairly won the backup QB job today on the field of play in my book.
I'm still a Pyron fan though.
Agree. But if he Key was still pushing him and he bucked up against Key in front of the team, it is a different story. I am deeply sorry this kind of stuff is happening, regardless of what is really behind this, if it is true.
It was posted on X that we not only have won the last 4 games in Blacksburg but we have won the last 3 with backup quarterbacks. The poster said he triple checked it so maybe it is true.
Doesn't surprise me. Key was all over him at one time during the Duke game and the ST play has gotten even worse. I don't understand what has happened, he seemed like a great coach for what he has accomplished prior to this year.
Our running game returns after being shut down last week, allowing Pyron to better show his skills with a more balanced offense. We win this one by 14+ and look really good doing it in our classic and elegant GWG unis.
