Neal was the first one that popped to mind as an omission, but I decided the criteria were GT point guard and an NBA career. While I enjoyed Iman Shumpert at Tech, I think I would put Noodles ahead of him in terms of GT point guards.

    Damon Stoudamire

He got better from last year to this year, and got better during this year. It was not his fault that the team needed more from him than he was ready to give. I was hopeful that he could take another step forward and contribute more consistently. I wish him the best of luck going forward.

    CDS staff speculation.

I’m forgot that! Just glanced at the staff list and saw that Benson had been at Tech for the same 7 years as Pastner. Swartz moved up after the LaBarrie debacle I think.

    CDS staff speculation.

Going to be interesting to see how large the final staff is. Aside from the strength coach and trainer, last year's staff listed 7 positions in addition to Pastner. 3 assistant coaches and a Director of Operations (the DBO is often a younger person expected to eventually become an assistant...

    CDS Expectations

So in the media guide for this season there were the three assistant coaches, a Director of Operations, a Director of Player Personnel (Elder) and a Director of Scouting. Then you had a player development coach, sports medicine, academic advisor, and a Director of Media Content which was...

1 - thanks for the rundown, no time to watch the video this afternoon 2 - hahahahaha - thanks for the laughs - great job!

    Thanks Coach Pastner

I echo your thanks, and I too appreciate that he was willing to take the job and that he was enthusiastic about it. I do think he left the program in better shape than when he got here. At the least, he demonstrated that it was still possible at GT to have winning conference records, and to win...

    When does Pastner feel heat

Thanks for going through this. I just want to highlight: Sjolund Didenko Gigiberia Three straight years of project big men which turned out to be failures of evaluation or development, at least in terms of getting them to be productive pieces of the get old, stay old strategy. And Pastner...

    Post-season Thoughts

My memory is that Pastner said when he was hired that he liked the Princeton offense and thought it was effective and.at some point decided that he wanted to run it at his “next” job. He hired Tavares Hardy specifically to install and teach it because he had not previously run it.

GT @ PITT (2/21/2023) GAME THREAD

Yes, Pace's "decades long record of football mediocrity" began in 2008, the first year they had a football team, though technically they played 1 exhibition game in 2007 as they started up. That is not to say that they did not choose to greatly emphasize their athletic teams in that period, by...

If you had a wish list for AD JB what would it be?

I find this fascinating. I have been wondering if all of the private student housing that's been and being built across the interstate was either causing vacancies or allowing the school to grow, but I guess there's enough market for more.

If you had a wish list for AD JB what would it be?

The School is already waiving out of state tuition for the GTAA. FY2022 they reported a combined $5.8 million of Institutional Support, including out of state tuition waivers and administrative salaries and support.

IF Pastner is fired, who would be a good hire to replace him?

This may be my inherent pessimism, but I still believe that regardless of fixing the NIL and other basketball-related structural issues, the academics at Tech are going to limit the ceiling of recruiting and definitely limit who can be brought in through the portal. It's not that I think that...

7 GT Football Players Named To ACC All-Academic Team

I think Gardner and Sheldon Fox must have overlapped by a year or two. I think Fox graduated in 1980 with a 4.0 in EE while playing LB. Pretty sure Gardner tutored my wife through one of her EE classes.

Game Day - Clemson Edit v1.24

He has said many times that he coaches by gut feel, and occasionally recognized limitations of that approach in terms of providing consistent minutes or rotations. At this point I doubt he is going to change. I think this year is also a challenge in that his tendency is to play 7-8 deep, but...

    When does Pastner feel heat

He was very much hired to be a veteran presence and mentor to a young team competing against teams of older players, and I think he played a good bit. I’m also sure he was thinking he might get another shot with an NBA team needing some depth. Game write-up featuring Jack AJC article about his...

Top 5 GT Basketball Player All Time

I started to reply with McHenry, because I just remember appreciating what he added to those teams. Looked him up and saw he is still playing in Japan.

Get Old, Stay Old... What Happened??

The column was much too snarky for me, but I in general don't like Cunningham's writing. That said, I would love to see some reporting that pins down exactly why Pastner has failed to sustain his Get Old, Stay Old model. If the answer for last year was that he had to wait too long for Jose and...
