    New Staff Hire

I'm glad to hear it. But it makes me wonder ... is this Geoff calling the shots (and why didn't he make these decisions sooner?) or someone else?

Put my point in context. The question was what is the better way to get support for your program (e.g., attendance, donations, swag, etc.). One answer is to just schedule teams so that you win. I disagree with that. Studies show that fans care less about "winning" for winning sake than playing...

Well, some have. Not you. But others have suggested easing the schedule to get more wins. Let’s play Sprayberry!

Is it? Create a schedule that includes Gardner-Webb, Alcorn State, South Alabama, Arkansas State, etc. .... and see how many fans show up or contribute? The data shows it is NOT wins that count, but wins against competitive opponents. A win against Auburn (6-7 last year) counts FAR more than a...

No data. “I often say that when you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind.” - Lord Kelvin

Ticket sales have ZERO to do with W/L. Go to the West Stands and do a count of how many long-time (and generous) ticket holders are renewing. Each one of those tickets is not just ticket sales, it's also a $500 A-T donation. And many of those who did not renew, are not real happy with Money-Down...

Happens all the time. A disruptive leader is, by definition, disruptive. I had to let a few go in my career ... guys that had performed well but alienated the staff and the employee population. If Geoff wins 8 games (and that's a huge "if") and season ticket sales drop to 15,000 ... it's hardly...

I went to grad school at Emory. There is no interest in sports there whatsoever. Living in Auburn, even if you did not attend, you can't get away from it. Football (and other AU sports) are EVERYWHERE. Basketball just sold out and it's August. They haven't even announced public ticket sales yet...

I recall a survey that suggested that fans have two teams to pull for in the modern CFB game, based on their chances of winning the CFB title. By the end of September, all but about 8 teams already know they are out. So you pull for your team and for the next 2-3 months, you pull for your backup.

Yes. You are under the impression that ONLY wins matter. Do you want to play in an empty stadium? With smaller donations? Fewer fans? If so, schedule easier opponents, get the wins and watch the program suffocate. No one gives a **** if GT beats Alcorn State.

Honestly, I don't care if we win 8 games. Geoff has lost the fanbase and it's time to move on. No offense to Geoff. We all realize it was the Greatest Transformation in the History of Earth. But let's just get back to good football. He wasn't the guy and he can enjoy his millions. I just want to...

My introduction to Tech football was back in 1979. In 1980, we played Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, UGA, and Notre Dame. I think one sportswriter (Furman Bisher) said Tech played the toughest SEC schedule in the nation ... as an independent. Games were FUN. Flashcard seatings were a...
