  1. Conference Realignment

First, I agree with your premise, but you are highlighting the rosy part to make your point. FSU playing Vandy, Miss St, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, etc doesn’t move the needle at all. Chances are FSU is going to play a mixture of the teams you mentioned and the teams...
  2. Conference Realignment

Moving teams between the SEC, ACC and Big12 for ESPN content purposes is marginal. The new big money maker for ESPN is the expanded CFP and I would imagine it’s in ESPN’s interest for the CFP to be more than just an SEC-Big10 playoff. That means trying to keep the ACC and Big12 relevant.
  3. Conference Realignment

Conference expansion is 95%+ for football money. The other reasons people mention fall in the remaining 5%. So, at what point do you think a conference has too many teams? I’m still not sure why the Big10 felt guilty enough to add Washington and Oregon to get to 18 teams. Most likely because...
  4. Conference Realignment

adding Texas is a little different than adding just any other second school from an already represented state
  5. Conference Realignment

How impactful would it be to the SEC if the Big10 had a team in Atlanta? I can see why that may have been important 30 years ago, but I don't think it carries that much weight anymore. I'm sure it's mentioned during discussions, but not enough to instigate a preemptive move by the SEC.
  6. Conference Realignment

Bama is a bad example. They had 12 national titles prior to Saban going on his run. Sure, they had a lull from the mid 90s to mid 2000s, but suggesting they weren't a massive football brand prior to Saban is inaccurate.
  7. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

It’s not just people on this board defending this approach; it was agreed to by all of the conferences and schools too. Talented (highly compensated) people whose job includes making things like this work out. Would I prefer the ACC, SEC, Big10, and Big 12 all get equal payments, sure; but...
  8. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

I posted this on another board, but when i saw the percentages, it struck me that it breaks out as if the SEC/Big10 are getting the equivalent of 4 teams in each (28.75%). The ACC is getting 2.4 teams in (17%). The Big12 is getting the equivalent of 2.1 teams in (15%). G5 is getting 1.25...
  9. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

I agree with your "good loss" comment. That definitely happens, but I don't think it drives the narrative quite as much as the SEC winning the national championship at a 75% clip from 6 different teams. But, again, i agree with your good loss comment.
  10. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

We seem to be talking past each other. This thread is about the 12 team playoff and how many spots the SEC will get. On one hand you're arguing that the SEC/Big10 will get half of the spots (ie 3 per SEC and Big10). Then you post "Top to bottom, as a conference, the SEC is marginally better...
  11. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

I think the top to bottom claim is more hyperbole, but I know some take it as gospel. For example, I don’t think anyone believes Vandy is a strong team. 7 or 8 out of 10 years, the SEC has the most depth of any conference, but there are a few years they don’t. I think there has been a gap in...
  12. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

I thought this topic was about next year’s (5+7, 12 team) playoff and how many potential slots the SEC/Big10 will get. Since we're talking about next year’s playoff, my arguments took into consideration the SEC with Texas and Oklahoma and the Big10 with USC, Washington, Oregon. My focus has only...
  13. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

I don’t think most SEC or Big10 people say the ACC is a doormat. I think they say the ACC is the third best conference. I think ACC people feel like they are a doormat. Many would say the SEC has been the strongest, deepest conference and it was arguable who was next Big10, ACC, Big12, Pac12...
  14. Article CFP unanimously approves 5+7 model for new 12-team playoff

when i think Big10 country, Chicago doesn't really come to mind to me. Yes, i know there are tons of Big10 fans in Chicago. It's just not what i think of as Big10 country.
  15. College football is a mess

I think it’s likely that instead of trying to cram a college athlete into the defined definitions of independent contractor or employee, a new category (or subcategory) will be created. It might fall into independent contractor or it might fall into employee, but there will be tweaks...
