I put it ultimately on Gailey for not stepping in and forcing Nix to call Choice's number more. Gailey was the ultimate decider on our offense, even if Nix was the play-caller.

2009 FSU was awesome. We had two one-play TD drives, and one two-play TD drive. And the only drives where we didn't score were when we fumbled. FSU couldn't stop Josh, Dwyer, BeBe, etc.

The 2006 Georgia game still gets in my craw. In the second half, whenever we handed off to Choice, he was darn near unstoppable. But we kept throwing it. I think we would have won if we'd given Choice the ball more. Choice had 23 carries for 146 yards, and could have easily carried it 30+...

Notre Dame 2007 - I rewatched that this morning. Tashard Choice taking direct snaps in the shotgun, and ND couldn't stop him. And Tenuta's D mauled their quarterbacks. LOL. That was a great game.
  5. Conference Realignment

OK thanks for the context around FSU. So, if FSU goes Independent, they'll be much worse off than if they remain in the ACC (I think). So, just leaving the ACC would seem insane. I think anything other than a P2 invitation would be bad for Clemson and FSU.
  6. Conference Realignment

I have no inside information. But I have a hard time believing that FSU & Clemson would go through all this trouble unless they were pretty sure that one of the P2 wanted them. It just seems like it would otherwise be a huge waste of time, resources, and reputation.
  7. Conference Realignment

OK, that's true. But Miami won 5 national championships in 19 years. I think there was a reasonable assumption that Miami was going to be a national factor when they entered the ACC, and they absolutely disappointed in that regard.
  8. Conference Realignment

Miami, IMO, would have been built back to championship status if Mark Richt had stayed and not had health issues. He retired due to health problems. But he had that program doing better his first two years than anything they had done in years prior to his arrival. I think by 2018, he was...
  9. Conference Realignment

NC State has had a run of solid football seasons. They're never great, but never awful, and seem to have settled into 8-9 wins like clockwork. Not sure what it will take for NC State to get to that elusive next level. They just can't quite get to that top tier in conference. And they have a...
  10. Conference Realignment

Well, Miami is 73-53 over the last 10 years, as you pointed out. Wake is 63-61 over the same timespan. Miami has been better, but not much better. That's averaging 1 more win per year. And both of them have zero ACC titles during that timespan. I just think Miami deserves more criticism...
  11. Conference Realignment

I think Miami has FAAAAAAR under-achieved against what the conference thought we were getting when agreed to join the ACC in early 2003. This record you just listed is only the last 10 years. The 10 years before that were also fair-to-middlin' at best. If Miami had a history in football like...
  12. Conference Realignment

SMU has deep pockets. And paying players is now allowable. SMU is located in Texas. They will be a powerhouse, now that they're in a real conference.

I rewatched the Tech/Tulsa Blue Turf Massacre. That was a wonderful game. It was actually pretty tight at halftime at 10-3. Then, in the second half, we stopped trying to throw the ball, and just started handing it to PJ. The OL was bocking great. Tulsa got tired of tackling PJ quickly in...
  14. Conference Realignment

We used to be forward-looking. Personally, I thought we hit a home run in '92 with FSU, and then '04 and Miami and VPI. After we added Miami, which I think was announced in 2003, right after they'd played for a national title and only a few years after VPI had played for a national title, I...
  15. Conference Realignment

It could be that Batt is just playing it smart, and not tipping his hand on quiet discussions. Or....it could be that Batt is just willing to ride it out in the ACC, because we might not have any other choice. Maybe he's just pro-ACC.

Which bowl was it where we mauled a G5 type team under Gailey? Tulsa? I need to rewatch that, because the main thing I remember is our defense hitting their QB over and over and over.
  17. Conference Realignment

I work with a few Tech grads. Of the group, I'm the only one that follows the football program. The rest of them couldn't care less. It's kinda sad in that regard.
  18. Conference Realignment

I have to say that when we added Miami and VT, I think 12 years after we added FSU, I thought that we'd hit a home run and that the ACC was going to be an absolute powerhouse conference. Remember, when Miami was announced as joining, they were only one year beyond their 2001 national...
  19. Conference Realignment

My guess is that NC State and VPI are stuck with us in the remainder of the ACC. I think that Clemson & FSU certainly are leaving into the P2. Not as sure on UNC & UVA. But I think UNC will be welcomed by the P2 if they want to leave, and might drag UVA along with them. Really, beyond...
  20. Conference Realignment

So, what is our "worst case"? I'm wondering if it's being stuck in a conference with mostly small'ish fanbase private schools, and a few other public schools. Maybe the leftovers of the ACC are the following: Tech, Duke, Wake, Miami, Syracuse, BC, Pitt, SMU, Stanford, Cal, Louisville....maybe...
